Rated Operational Current

Definition of Rated Operational Current

Rated value and nominal value are distinguished by DIN 40200:1981-10 and DIN 22,20-12:1989-03.

For constructve design of electric equipment and selection of its components the process of measuring is essential. Operating conditions have to be defined and linked for the equipment to work. Rated values for operation under certain circumstances are developed.

Rated Operational Current and Operating Conditions

Rated Operational Current is a value defined by the manufacturer. The exact definition of the Rated Operational Current is dependend on the standard applied (low voltage switch gear like e.g. load switches or circuit breakers: DIN EN IEC 60947-3). The rated operational current is dependend on conferring to certain operating conditions. Examples are: Measuring values for operating current, frequency and category of use. The rated operational current is one of the most important values when selecting an electric contactor.

If conditions are different than defined in the operating conditions and thus lead to the rated operational value being exceeded an individual agreement with the manufacturer is required.
