What does the Term PUR for cables mean?

PUR is short for "polyurethane". This is a plastic which is not easily flammable and does not create fumes and therefore is suitable for cable insulation. Cables free of halogen are uch safer than cables containing halogen. Due to this reason they should be used in many buildings for fixed installation of network, data and power lines. In case of a fire, halogen free cables disintegrate without creating non-transparant smoke or toxic fumes. During a fire these often present higher dangers than the heat. Due to their being fire proof, halogen free cables will not transfer fire through a building. The PUR cable has many additional interesting characteristics.

PUR is not ideal when brought into contact with alcohol. It may soak it up or dissolve which would be suboptimal for a PUR electric line. Upon contact with water, the PUR cable remains completely reliable in regards to its insulation.

For use in a permanently moving drag chain, the PUR cable is the best choice. For machines like diggers, crawlers or handling machines it is a good choice since it is also UV resistant. Long term solar radiation does not harm it. It maintains its flexibility without causing tears or breaks in the coat.

Limits of PUR Cables

Polyurethane is resistant to a number of chemicals. However, it is highly sensitive to alcohol. Therefore it is recommended to not use the PUR cable in areas with alcohol emissions and to not use cleaners containing alcohol on it.

It is suitable for shielded lines due to its high flexibility and sealing characteristics of polyurethane. The shielded PUR cable has a conductive shell. This protects the inner cores against outside electromagnetic influences. The shielded PUR cable is therefore perfectly suited to be wired parallel with different voltages, frequencies or types of signals. The shielding allows high voltage lines, data lines and signal lines in a close vicinity.

UV resistant PUR cables are highly radiation resistant. They do not just shield against strong UV radiation but act against other wave lengths. They are suited for wiring close to radiation sources of all types.

The PUR cable is delivered as rolled good. Furthermore the cables are available with many desired plug combinations. Since the PUR cable is suited for all conductor types, every type of coupling can be mounted on it. In addition adapters of all types may be made with PUR cables.
