Electric Fuses
Electrical Fuses for Reliable Triggering
Necessary measures of protection when setting up power supply include protection of lines and components. Overcurrent protection is responsible reliably shutting off the power supply as soon as the maximum voltage is exceeded. To protect devices connected to the power supply from damage through heat, the reaction time must be accurately determined. Electrical fuses, magnetic-circuit breakers and conventional fuses are the most common types of overcurrent protection.
Electrical fuses within 24V network
Most industrial power supplies run on 24V. Several variants of electrical fuses for 24V networks are available to purchase. Depending on the type and set-up of the device, 1,2,4 or 8 channels are available to supply and protect connected consumers.
Product OverviewElectrical Fuses for Control Cabinets and Field
Within a control cabinet electrical fuses may be used when mounted on a top hat rail (EN 60715) and are set up according to the IP20 standard.

Currently combinations of power supply and electrical fuse are only available according to standard IP67. One example is Emparro Hybrid.
Advantages of Electrical Fuses
The advantages of electrical fuses include:
- compact design
- no mechanical components
- quick response
Electrical fuses provide advantages for the protection of longer lines and for the use in combination with a switching power supply. Other devices for over-current protection, such as circuit breakers, have a much slower response rate. In such cases the selectivity of the network protection can not be guaranteed.
Additional Safety Features
Usability can be increased through additional safety features which are available depending on the set-up. When multiple channels are linked to the device, switch-on-current-peaks can be avoided by delaying the switch-on process. This avoids an overload of the power supply. The higher the electricity consumption of some consumers, like motors, the higher the wear and tear. Setting up Early warning via LED when the set electricity value is reached is recommended. Restarting via the control unit simplifies starting up a machine after a fuse was triggered.
