What is Sistema?

SISTEMA is short for "safety for control units on machines" (German: "Sicherheit von Steuerungen an Maschinen"). It is the name of a software assistant which helps to evaluate the of a machine control unit. The safety evaluation is based on DIN EN ISO 13849-1.
SISTEMA is designed as a windows application and therefore easy to use for experienced users. In addition to general request of key figures and output of checklists the assistant has an extensive simulation interface. This interface imitates the intended set up and enables the user to check the safety related aspects of the system. The result of the check is the evaluation of the performance as well as the check of security and reliability.

What requires Sistema?

SISTEMA offers a step by step registration of the following key figures:

• Risk Parameter for Definition of the "Performance Level" (PLr)
• Measures against Errors with the same Cause (CCF)
• Medium Component Quality (MTTFd)
• Medium Test Quality of System Components (DCavg)

The result of the analysis is output in a protocol by SISTEMA. The goal is to reach ideal relation of required measures and optimized performance. Following the recommended steps may at times be in contrast to the general goals of the system architecture. In many cases compliance to safety measures improves the performance of the system.
By using SISTEMA each change is immediately visible. Therefore it is an effective and efficient tool for planning security of machines and decide necessary measures before application.
