What is a Sensor Box?

A sensor box (or I/O Module) is a system which is able to collect different input values. It is used for communication or interaction of a system with a user or its surroundings. The sensor box can perform data actions such as reading and writing.

The following sensor box systems may be used:

• Analog Output Modules
• Digital Output Modules

Sensor Box – Digital Output Module

The sensor box version as digital output module is used to forward signals (usually in automated plants).

Sensor Box – Analog Output Module

The sensor box version as analog output module is used to trigger plants and/or machines in a differentiated way.

Why is the Sensor Box needed?

A sensor box is used to trigger machines. Different types of bus systems may be used in the control cabinet to offer an ideal solution for automation. It is differentiated in between bus systems (Profinet, Interbus, CanOpen). Depending on the used technology for transmission the sensor box has to be selected accordingly.
