Multi Mode Relay

Product Overview

What is a Multi mode Relay?

A relay is a triggered switch. It allows a circuit with a high voltage to be switched with just a low switching current. Relays are part of the oldest traditional components in electric technology. Within the process of signal processing, the relay is especially important since signal currents usually are much lower than currents for actuators. A multi mode relay is an especially efficient configuration since it includes multiple switches within a single electric component.

What is a Multi mode Relay used for?

A multi mode relay, just like any other relay, is used to trigger higher voltages. In contrast to a regular one mode relay multi mode relays include multiple electric components of this type within one component. Multi mode relays are often set up as an optocoupler or at least complemented with such. Typical configurations of multi mode relays are 4 channel relays or 8 channel relays.

Advantages and Disadvantages of a Muti mode Relay

If multiple relays are required in an electronic circuit the multi mode relay has advantages for the installation process. Using these cuts down installation time by a substantial amount especially for serially produced products. The main disadvantage is the higher cost in comparison to one mode relays. Especially if a multi mode relay is not used to its full potential unnecessary redundancies are created. On the other hand, a bigger multi mode relay simplifies the extension of an electric circuit.
