What are Junior Timer Contacts?

Junior Timer Contacts for plug-in connectors are part of the Timer Interconnection System for the car industry and are also known as AMP Timer. The company AMP Timer was taken over by TE Connectivity (formerly known as Tyco Electronics) in 1999. TE offers a selection of plug-in connector product lines with different types of contacts. Plug-in connectors based on Junior contacts are used in manufacturing and mobile hydraulics as well.

Junior Timer contacts for plug-in connectors are available in different configurations depending on the application. Junior Timer contacts are available for a range of cable diameters between 0,12 and 2,5 mm2. Depending on the type of contact, up to 20 A can be transmitted. The power required to plug the Junior Timer contacts in is roughly 8 N. The power necessary to pull them off is roughly 6 N. Materials used for the Junior Timer contacts are: CuZn and CuSn. Housings for plug-in connectors can be found for different set-ups or a different number of Junior Timer contacts.

There are release tools which can be used to change the Junior Timer assignment of a plug. A fork terminal extractor can be used to unlock crimp contacts and change the Junior Timer assignment.

An application of Junior Timer contacts and plug-in connectors is the connection of hydraulic valves. The simple installation and quick securing by a lock which is mounted on the plug is an advantage. This offers required protection against unplugging the plug due to common influences in mobile hydraulics like shocks, vibration or pulling forces. Pre-assembled and cast plugs with Junior Timer assignment safe valuable installation time and avoid time consuming search for errors in wiring which easily occur during assembly in the field. Junior Timer plugs can be configured for high levels of security and offer sufficient protection against dust and water.

Junior Timer Assignment in Valve Plugs for Mobile Application

Valve plugs are available with Junior Timer assignment for 12 V and 24 V. These valve plugs with Junior Timer assignment are even available for 230 V applications. Depending on their configuration, they are equipped with an LED and suppressor circuits. Additionally configurations with a 90° outgoing cable are available.

Junior Timer Assignment

The Junior Timer assignment complies to a 2 core cable connection. Configurations with open ended wires or M12 connection on the other side are available. Junior Timer assignments for the transmission of signals of hydraulic valves can be found in the manufacturer specifications.
