IO-Link Device Tool
What is an IO-Link Device Tool?
IO-Link is a brand name for a communication system used to connect suitable actuators and sensors to a system automation. The connected devices are called "IO-Link Devices". IEC 61131-9 is the standard for this type of devices. The implementation of an IO-Link device is only possible in combination with a certificate. Therefore, manufacturers are dependent on support to adapt their sensors and actuators to the IO-Link standard. This type of certification is possible without help. For perfect adaption of their products, an IO-Link Device Tool is used by manufacturers.
What is an IO-Link Device Tool used for?
The IO-Link Device Tool has three responsibilities:
- Support during self-certification
- Testing the IO-Link device
- Changing parameters of a sensor
An IO-Link Device Tool has a physical component and a software. The component has standard interfaces for IO-Link devices and a computer. The IO-Link devices can be tested via these interfaces for its suitability into an IO-Link system. A general test of the functionality of the sensor or actuator can be conducted with the help of the tool as well. The IO-Link Device Tool offers the possibility to change the manipulated variable and the parameter in the sensor or actuator without changing the complex SPS management of a plant.
