Drag Chain compatible

Product Overview

What is Drag Chain Compatibility?

Drag chains, or "energy chains" are machine components in automation technology. They consist of a chain which can only be moved in one direction. In regular applications drag chains are made out of plastic elements. The top has a flap that can be opened at all times. If opened like that, any type of cable can be inserted. After fastening the cables and closing the flap, cables are permanently secured against damage or drill. In addition to plastic drag chains there are also extremely durable drag chains available made from aluminium. Fully enclosed drag chains can be used in areas that may be exposed to hot shavings. The use of drag chain compatible cables is required regardless of the type of drag chain used.

Drag Chain Compatible Cables

Drag chain compatible cables are power or data cables that can be bent any number of times. Drag chains are put on machine components that are permanently moving. Typical applications are robotic arms, feeding systems or lifting and rotary systems. Usually the definition of drag chain compatibility refers to the protective shield of the cable. They have to be able to cope with being permanently bent. This excludes all rigid cables right away. Cables with plastic coats are also limited in this application since they may harden over time. Drag chain compatibility of a cable is indicated as the bending radius. This has to be taken into account when selecting a compatible energy chain.
