Bus Connectors

Standardized connectors are used to connect actuators, sensors and control units to cables, even if devices are from different manufacturers. Exact technical specifications of the connectors guarantee that parts can be combined or replaced where reasonable. Screw and plug connectors of voltage cables are designed to avoid being confused with one another. Incompatible plugs and sockets can’t be connected in most cases. This ensures the operability of circuits and avoids damage to control units, terminals and cables. Additionally, the higher level types of connectors are split up into numerous types of additional links. These again are set up to not able to be connected despite a similar outer appearance. Thus the choice of connectors is diverse. The wide bandwidth assures a maximum of operation safety for each desired assembly. Three widely known types of connectors are RJ45 plug connectors, M8 plug connectors and M12 plug connectors.

RJ45 Plug Connectors

RJ45 plug connectors are standardized plug connectors of cables for telecommunication. These plug connectors are available in different sizes. The plastic head with a snap on tab is typical for RJ (Registered Jack - standardized connection) connection types. The efficient installation is ensured by these user friendly types of connectors. RJ45 plug connectors are only rated for light signal streams as well as data transfer. Additionally, they only offer a low tensile strength and limited protection agains humidity. RJ45 plug connectors are available with 4 or 8 poles by default.

M8 Plug Connectors

M plug connectors are screwed tight together. In addition they contain inside seals which makes them water and dust resistant. Because of this, M plug connectors are often IP65 classified. By default M8 plug connectors are equipped with 3 or 4 poles. The 3-pole variant is exclusively responsible for signal transmission of sensor cables. The 4-pole variant can also serve for actuators with a low preload, which are limited to 60 V for the M8 plug connector. It is not recommended to use this full voltage range. For safety reasons it may be advisable to use an M12 plug connector instead of an M8 plug connector when getting close to the maximum voltage allowed for those. Here you can find further information regarding the configuration of M8 plug connectors.

M12 Plug Connectors

M12 plug connectors are equipped with a screw connection similar to M8 plug connectors. It offers the same connection safety. Additionally, M12 plug connectors are available in a much wider bandwidth variety. It is one of the most versatile groups of connectors in electric connection technology. Today, M12 plug connectors are available up until voltages of 600 V. Due to this range and the compact design in most industry branches, this is the connector of choice. Here you can find additional information regarding the configuration of M12 plug connectors.
